A Study on the Job Analy sis of the Staff Nurses


Abstract
The job that related activites of three duties by sixteen nurses, working in the surgical and medical units of one university hospital, was analyzed by checklist. The analyzed data were fourty eight.
The checklist was monitored every five minutes during duties and was composed of sixty seven items. The data were gathered by researchers and research assistants during four weeks.
@ES The results of the study were as follows:
@EN 1. In general characteristics, the results showed mean 26.8 years of age and mean 31.6 months of clinical experience. In educational background, 56% had the diploma degrees, 25% had the bachelor degrees and 19% had the master degrees.
2. The average time requred each direct nursing activity per day was as follows: 290.3 minutes for measurement and observation. 216.8 minutes for medication. 77.9 minutes for exercise for exercise. 67.9 minutes for communication, 64.2 minutes
for
elimination. 36.9 minutes for hygiene. 23.2 minutes for heat treatment. 20.5 minutes for treatment. 13.9 minutes for each nutrition and suction and 11.8 minutes for oxigen therapy. Direct nursing activities was 58.18% of one day average nursing
activities. Most of this direct nursing activities were measurement & observation(20.16%), and medication(15.06%).
3. The average time required each indirect nursing activity per day was as follows: 158.8 minutes for record. 129.2 minutes for doctor order confirmation. 108.2 minutes for confirmation, 90.3 minutes for management of goods. 20.09 minutes for
communication. Indirect nursing activities was 35.17% of one day average nursing activities. Most of these indirct nursing activities were record(11.03%), and communication with medical team was spent the least time(1.39%).
4. In comparision with nursing activities by duties, time required nursing activities of the day shift was as follows: 92.9 minutes for measurement and observation, 86.8 minutes for medication, 40.8 minutes for record, 37.3 minutes for
communication(direct), 36.4 minutes for exercise 34.7 minutes for confirmation. 31.8 minutes for elimination, 23.7 minutes for hygiene, 15.5 minutes for management of goods, and 14.2 minutes for confirmation of doctor order. Time required nursing
activities of the evening shift was similar to that of the day shift and most of them were measurement and observation(117.7 minutes) and medication(75.8 minutes), however, the time required nursing activities of the night shift was different
from
of
the dat and evening shift. It was as follows: 104.7 minutes for confirmation of doctor order , 76.4 minutes for record. 66.8 minutes for measurement for confirmation. 11.5 minutes for treatment, and 10.1 minutes for communication with medical
team.
Most
of them were indirect nursing activities.
5. The staff nurses spent much time for dependent nursing activities.
